Cross Manufacturing – Bespoke Racking
Bath, Somerset
Brief: To design bespoke racking to store coils of wire and sheet materials. Site management and installation all to our very high standards.
Duration: 4 weeks on site, 2 phases (plus drawing work)
The Project:
We worked closely with the Warehouse Manager, to produce a storage solution that enabled them to store coils of wire of varying sizes so that they did not roll or move or fall over. The racking and coil supports needed to be as flexible as possible so as to enable future proofing for the storage of different items that may come into the store room.
Existing:
The existing racking did not make the best use of the space available, and did not allow all the products to be stored as required.
Project Brief:
To redesign the racking to create a more efficient storage space that was strong and correctly sized to suit their purpose. Also to produce a sheet metal storage rack that could fit in the space available and so that each sheet could be individually pulled out easily on rollers as necessary.
Constraints:
The storage needed to be flexible so that it could be used for coil storage, or changed to be used for boxed items or other products. The coils needed to fit on to the racks both when they came in full coils and also during use when the coils would become smaller in diameter.
Solutions:
We designed a racking layout that had bolted supports that could easily be un bolted to accommodate boxed storage or any other product on a chipboard base, which was crafted to fit around the supports when they were in place. We managed the project by working with the customer’s need to keep the warehouse open and production functioning.
Phasing the job to avoid too much disruption in the day to day running of the company
